clinical hypnosis

Clinical Hypnosis is an experiential therapeutic process that relaxes the conscious mind so that the unconscious mind can open to greater self-awareness. This process fosters a sturdier sense of self, improved ability to manage distress, and subsequent changes in behavior.

The mechanisms behind clinical hypnosis are elaborated in adaptive experiential theory (
C. Alldredge & G. Elkins) as well as the research on implicit memory (L. Damis).

I completed my training in clinical hypnosis at
American Society of Clinical Hypnosis under the supervision of Dr. Louis Damis who developed methods of insight oriented clinical hypnosis aimed at improving internal ego strength.

These methods use clinical hypnosis to first foster a deeper sense of safety and security. From this place of safety, we collaborate on other targets for healing and growth – including the ideal parent figure protocol, connecting with a sense of mastery, hypnoprojectives for deeper exploration and connection, bridge techniques to connect present experiences to those in the past, future-time oriented imagery, and others.

In my work, clinical hypnosis is used in conjunction with other therapies (such as schema therapy) to help move from insight to actualizing desired change. It also helps foster a strong and essential safe base prior to trauma processing and meaning making.
